“Energy has run out in Europe”: Hungarian Prime Minister called for the lifting of sanctions against Russia

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed the opinion that “attempts to weaken the Russians” with the help of “11 thousand sanctions” “have not been successful.” His words are quoted by the MTI agency.
“On the contrary, severe inflation and energy shortages caused by sanctions could bring Europe to its knees,” he says, adding that he does not know how long Brussels will continue the sanctions policy.
In his opinion, because of the “illogical actions” of the European Union , the problem is only getting worse.
“If we do not change the sanctions policy, the situation in Europe will not be easy. The situation is such that energy has run out in Europe, we have to bring it here from somewhere else, and the energy that comes here is expensive,” the head of government emphasized.
He noted that because of the policy, the European authorities are abandoning various energy sources, which leads to a rise in the cost of “their own life and the complication of the position of their own industry in global competition.”
Nevertheless, he stated that there would be no energy shortage in Hungary. His country supposedly has enough gas and electricity. According to the MTI agency, Orban meant that there is no need to stop or close any factories due to lack of energy.
In addition, the Hungarian prime minister drew attention to the fact that the sphere is open for investment: “Everyone who wants to invest and produce here can come and invest here.”
Solving the problem of rising prices in Europe
The head of the administration of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Gergely Guiyash, believes that price reductions and inflation are possible with the lifting of sanctions against Russia. RIA Novosti writes about this.
“If tomorrow the sanctions against Russia, or at least the energy part of them, are lifted, prices and inflation will fall by half. But the European Commission did not follow this, but the opposite path,” he stressed.
In particular, he spoke out against the decision of the European Commission (EC) to set a price ceiling for Russian gas. “The problem is that a price ceiling can only be set if someone produces what they want to distribute. And Europe does not provide itself with gas, so it makes no sense to talk about a price ceiling,” he concluded.
This idea was viewed negatively in at least three other countries, including Slovakia. Supported by Poland and Latvia.
But the EC believes that lifting sanctions is not worth it. Instead, European authorities are looking for alternative measures to reduce prices and inflation. In addition to the ceiling on gas prices from Russia, the head of the EC, Ursula von der Leyen, proposed to reduce the demand for electricity without fail. But, for example, Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary and Greece want this measure to be voluntary.
Von der Leyen also believes that the solidarity tax will help to resolve the issue. It is planned that it will be paid by organizations that work on fossil fuels and make big profits.
