All about dental veneers
Dental veneers are a cosmetic dentistry treatment that provides a beautiful and lasting smile. In addition, this system allows the aesthetic front of the teeth to be modified, thanks to materials that perfectly simulate both the color and the shape of the pieces.
They are a simple and fairly quick way to cover teeth in poor condition, allowing you to change their color, shape, and dimensions.
These are definitive prostheses that, with proper maintenance and timely revisions, are very durable over time. However, veneers are also at risk of chipping or breaking like natural teeth. The dentist is the professional in charge of telling the patient how long each one will last, depending on the specific case.
Principal functions
Currently, there are multiple cosmetic dental problems in the population. Among all the procedures, the veneer method can solve a large part of them. Here are a few:
- Fractures in the teeth.
- Interdental spaces.
- Uneven teeth (correct shape and size).
- spots or color
- Badly positioned, crooked teeth (mild cases).
- Worn enamel.
Types of veneers
At Virginia Dental Care, we work with three kinds of veneers:
Lithium disilicate veneers:
Lithium disilicate is a very novel material. A high-resistance ceramic material that is increasingly positioned in the sector, thanks to its properties and characteristics, and which is gaining ground over other veneers.
Porcelain veneers:
Porcelain veneers are bonded to enamel, making them very strong. In addition, they are very thin sheets that significantly improve the teeth’ color and help to recover the tooth’s shape.
Composite veneers:
This veneer covers the tooth through very thin composite layers with LED light. They are less durable than porcelain veneers, but you don’t have to grind your teeth. In addition, it is a reversible system.
Multiple benefits
This method provides undeniable benefits to patients, who begin to notice the difference from day one. Some people’s lives change radically, as the previous state of their teeth makes them feel insecure or have low self-esteem.
The quality of life increases because you can smile, eat and talk safely. Furthermore, in some cases, it can even improve the functionality of the teeth.
On an aesthetic level, the benefit is more than obvious, as we have mentioned before. A beautiful smile makes the person more secure, without anyone noticing anything strange or unnatural.
On the other hand, it must be emphasized that the veneers are painless. They do not cause discomfort, and their use is the same as normal teeth. Likewise, its appearance does not vary with good oral hygiene.
Care
This treatment does not require exhaustive or different care than normal oral hygiene. It is important to avoid consuming foods and products harmful to teeth in general. Anyway, we offer some recommendations:
- A good brushing after each meal.
- Use dental floss to avoid leaving certain food remains that are more difficult to remove.
- No Smoking.
- Do not abuse drinks such as tea, coffee, dark soda, and wine that promote color loss.
- Avoid excessive consumption of sauces such as mustard or ketchup.
- Do not bite objects or use the teeth as an opener or to cut.
- Go to regular check-ups and cleanings.
- Use a dental protector if you do any risky activity or contact sport.
- Don’t carry out any bad habits for oral health.
Another very important element for the care of the veneers is daily and correct cleaning. Since the veneers are delicate, there is nothing like a good cleaning habit.
