Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: A Super Saver Car
The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 meets the “Super Saver” eligibility criteria. You ask, “Why?” That’s because it is budget-friendly and high on fuel economy. Speaking of the latter, the Indian carmaker also offers another iteration of the Alto, i.e., the Alto 800, which slots itself below the K10 model and is exclusively available in optional CNG. However, the previous generations proved to be among the bestselling Maruti cars in India.
The carmaker halted the production of the vehicle when the BS6 emission norms came out, which it couldn’t meet. In 2022, the Alto K10 made a comeback in its market.
The indigenous carmaker built this vehicle on their new HEARTECT platform. This platform also underpins Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR, Baleno, Ignis, Swift, S-Presso, Celerio, etc.
The company claims that this platform incorporates “advanced high tensile steel” and “ultra-high tensile steel,” which improves the occupants’ safety in a collision.
But, considering the recent safety crash tests, the HEARTECT platform-based vehicles aren’t impressive as far as the build quality is concerned.
Anyhow, if your budget fits this vehicle, then below are a few things that you should know:

Under the Hood
As you all must be aware, Maruti Suzuki cars are known for being fuel efficient. And every buyer on this planet expects good mileage from their vehicles. The soaring fuel prices are never-ending, so that is why fuel-efficient vehicles are the best option. However, the new Alto K10 has a 1-litre Dual-Jet naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine that churns out 67PS and 89Nm of torque. For your reference, this K10C engine is a remapped version of the K10B. This K10C naturally-aspirated petrol engine powers other Maruti vehicles, such as the Celerio, WagonR, and S-Presso. Interestingly, the most fuel-efficient car in India is the Celerio, followed by the S-Presso as of 2022. In terms of pricing, the latter is slightly more expensive than the Alto K10’s price.
The engine power is drawn and sent to the front wheels, either by a standard five-speed manual gearbox or an optional five-speed AMT gearbox. But it is also worth noting that the K10 model misses out on the CNG variant. For the CNG variant, customers will have to choose the Alto 800. Besides that, Alto K10 owners can also get the CNG kit installed by the company.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto’s mileage ranges between 24.39kmpl and 24.9kmpl, as far as fuel efficiency is concerned. Please note that these are ARAI-claimed figures. The real-world mileage can vary with local traffic conditions and an individual’s driving style.
Features
As far as the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 features are concerned, you won’t get a long list at its price. In terms of entertainment, this hatchback offers a seven-inch integrated touchscreen infotainment unit. To learn about the inside-the-cabin experience from an expert, check out the 2022 Alto K10 review on the autoX website.
It supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also features both auxiliary input and Bluetooth connectivity. Under the infotainment unit, there is a dedicated panel for HVAC controls. There are old-school rotary dials for controlling the fan speed and cabin temperature. And, under the HVAC panel, there are covered sockets: 12V and USB/Aux ports. In addition, there is also a multi-functional steering wheel from which you can control the volume and the playlist and accept or reject phone calls. There is also a quick-access button for the voice control feature on the steering wheel.
The most noticeable feature is the fully digital instrument cluster, which is exclusive to the top-range variant of the Alto K10. Furthermore, you get the manually adjustable outside rear-view mirrors. The car offers front power windows and rear manually-controlled windows.
Apart from that, the Alto K10’s interior also gets several storage compartments.
On the safety front, this hatchback gets ABS plus EBD, central locking, child safety locks, rear seat belts, seatbelt warning, and door-ajar warning, to name a few. There is also a speed warning, which starts beeping beyond 80 km/h. Furthermore, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 also gets speed-sensing auto door locks, pretensioners, and force seatbelts. The Maruti Alto K10 also has auto-door unlock with impact detection. It comes in handy in the case of a collision.
The indigenous carmaker has offered dual airbags on this hatchback, which are standard across the variants. The new Alto K10 hasn’t been through a crash test by the concerned organization. So, there is no information on its safety rating. And these safety features do matter during an accident, but the build quality is essentially more than that.
