How to Draw A Basketball
Step 1
The first step in this basketball drawing tutorial is easy. For this step, we will draw a perfect circle that will outline your basketball. Performing an ideal ink process can be tricky, so there are some tools you can use to help.
The best tool for drawing a circle is a pair of compasses. This tool will help you quickly draw a circle, so if you have one, it would be great for this step! If you don’t have one, you can use a round object like a glue stick cap and then drag it around to create a circle.
Step 2
Now that you have the outline of your basketball, you can start drawing some lines of the ball. We will add a curved line for this step of your basketball design.
This first line extends from the top to the bottom of the basketball in a slightly curved line.
If you have a pair of compasses, you can also use them to draw that curved line along the sphere.
Step 3
We’re slowly building up the details of your basketball design, so we’ll add more over time. For this step, we’ll add a highly curved horizontal line to the basket, as in the reference image.
These lines can be challenging to correct, so you could use a pencil to draw the bars and then go over them with a pen if it looks good.
Step 4
We will draw more details on how to remove a basketball in step 4 of this guide. For this step, carefully draw another horizontal line on the basketball.
We should only curve this line slightly at a horizontal angle. Once this line is done, we can move on to the next step!
Step 5
You are almost drawn your basketball and need one more line to complete it now! This last line is a mirror image of the top bar you drew in step 3. As you can see in the reference image, it looks the same as this line except for the other way around.
Once you’ve drawn that line, you’re essentially drawn! You can also make it stand out if you want to add extra detail. An example of what you could do is paint your favorite basketball brand’s logo on your basketball!
